Clinic Description

An introduction to the ice climbing world! Equipment- crampons, leashless tools, building an Abalakov anchor, ice climbing strategies, safety, ice terminology, as well as route selection, ice grades and basic ice climbing technique are covered here.

For split-boarders with some backcountry skiing experience interested to know more about terrain, track setting and decision-making. On a classic Teton day tour, your guide discusses weather forecast, avalanche forecast, route choices and field observations. Learn how to debrief and gain the most from every mountain experience.

CLINIC DESCRIPTION

If you have never skied on a backcountry touring set-up, this clinic is for you. Learn about ski equipment, how to use skins, transition to downhill and an introduction to snow science and avalanche safety. Leave with the knowledge to become a safer and efficient backcountry skier.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

You should be able to hike 2000 feet vertical and ski blue terrain at your local ski area

The Arc’teryx Climbing Academy continues its partnership with Canada West Mountain School to provide world class clinics and workshops to all participants. Established in 1982, Canada West Mountain School is one of the premier Mountain Guiding and Training centers in Canada. Owned and operated by Squamish-based IFMGA Mountain Guide Brian Jones, Canada West Mountain School offers Mountain Guiding services, Instructional Training courses and Custom programs in all aspects of mountain travel and safety. Our programs and trips are offered throughout Western Canada and around the World..

2 Days Clinic Departing Aug 21 / 22

Participant to Guide Ratio - 3:1

Join CAMP Athletes for an intensive 2-day clinic in the alpine regions of the renowned Tantalus Range, above Squamish. This clinic will focus on the "light & fast" approach to climbing alpine objectives. Clinic price includes helicopter fee's. This two day clinic will depart on either August 21 or 22nd, depending on weather. Clear weather is mandatory for the helicopter to fly into the range

ATHLETES/PROS

The CAMP Light and Fast Alpinism clinic will be conducted by professional climber and CAMP athlete. Canada West will also supply additional ACMG Guides. All Arcteryx Climbing Academy Clinics and Guided Climbs are conducted by Canada West Mountain School Instructors, and all are certified members in good standing of the Association of Canadian Mountain Guides.

CLINIC DESCRIPTION

This clinic covers the most important aspects of the light & fast approach with a an intensive 2-day field session where we work on the implementation of the skills, strategies and tactics that are most useful for you. The professional athletes from CAMP teaching these clinics in conjunction with our ACMG Guides, have made light & fast a part of their very being. As we strongly believe that a commitment to the light & fast mentality is a commitment to an even more awesome life, we strongly believe that folks who take this clinic will get a lot out of it!.

PREREQUISITES

Intermediate level clinic, previous outdoor climbing and basic mountaineering experience required. Climbers on this clinic must know how to belay, rappel and should have experience travelling on snow with crampons.

DURATION

2 Full days ( Starting either Wednesday August 21st or Tuesday August 22

MEETING POINT & TIME

This is a 2-day Clinic held in an alpine region close to Squamish utilizing helicopter access/egress. Weather and alpine conditions must be suitable for flying, so the final dates will be determined the week prior to the first climbing window. The CAMP Light and Fast Clinic will start at 0700 on the first day scheduled, pending weather and alpine conditions . Participants will camp outside for this clinic, and WILL NOT be using the Haberl hut. The Hut can be used as an indoor cooking space for the evenings, but sleeping will happen in tents outside. You will need to provide your own Tent and sleeping equipment. Full details will be sent out well in advance of the clinic in regards to logistics, planning, gear and food requirements.

LOCATION

The CAMP Light and Fast Clinic will be conducted over 2 days/1 night in the Tantalus Rage above Squamish, BC. Participants WILL NOT be using the Haberl Hut. You will be camping

REQUIRED EQUIPMENT

The Light and Fast Alpine Tantalus Clinic will take place in an alpine environment and requires all participants be prepared for any/all weather conditions. In addition to overnight camping gear, every participant is required to supply their own climbing harness, belay device w/locker, helmet, proper mountaineering boots and crampons as a minimum. You will also need to bring all necessary equipment for winter condition camping. ( 4 Season Tent, warm sleeping bag and sleeping pad ) You will be contacted in advance to plan and prepare gear, food and logistics.

CLINIC DESCRIPTION

This overnight clinic is a full immersion in life on a big wall! Climb a classic aid line on the Chief, and then spend the night overlooking Howe Sound from your vertical campsite. You will be an active and integral member of the climbing team as you ascend the route, learning and developing aid climbing skills along the way. Establishing a hanging camp on the side of the wall is a unique experience and will open the door to many big wall objectives to pursue.
