Angeles National Forest

Just north of the basin, the San Gabriels rise fast and dry and full of contrast. Angeles National Forest sits an hour from downtown yet feels like another world. Chaparral-covered ridges, shaded canyon switchbacks, and light that turns everything golden by late afternoon. This is where LA runners learn that their city has an edge, and just beyond it, something wilder worth working toward.
