We will ride up the Sea to Sky gondola together and meander along the Sky Pilot Valley Trail as one group, at the speed of the slowest people. This 10km hike will take 3-4 hours plus a lunch break. A pass to ride the gondola up and down is included in your registration.

Bring water, lunch, clothes for the weather, and sturdy runners or boots.

About Mountain Mentors

Mountain Mentors’ vision is backcountry spaces where everyone belongs and feels safe.

We offer 1:1 mentorships in hiking, climbing, back country skiing and split boarding. Our core programming is open to all marginalized genders.

Historically, most people who have participated in Mountain Mentors programs have been cis women. We are in the process of actively making changes in our organization so that more trans and non-binary folks feel safe and welcome to apply as mentors and mentees.

This hike is led by one of Mountain Mentor’s board members, Rain Scott, who is trans masculine and non-binary. Other trans and non-binary folks who have been mentors or mentees with Mountain Mentors will be co-leading with them.

Mountain Origin Stories

WHEN

10-10:45AM on Sunday

WHERE

Pavilion Park: Main Stage

Join us for a writing clinic by poet, essayist and senior Arc'teryx writer Matt Spohn.

We will write poems about our first experiences in the mountains, share our writing, and hear what our work touches in others. Focusing on close observation, repetition, and the natural juxtaposition nature creates, we will approach the mountains from a new angle.

Together, we will revisit the courage and fear, the joy and exhaustion, and the transcendent ordinariness of our initial steps into the mountains. And we will look with fresh eyes into the vistas that lures back again and again.

These are mountains full of stories. It’s time to share yours.

*This writing workshop will focus on poetry, but prose writers who want to enrich their language will find an inviting and inspiring environment.

What is an Arc'teryx Academy?

Arc’teryx Academies are the pinnacle expression of the Arc'teryx brand in its truest form. Academies are purely focused on progressing and education in the mountains.

Over the course of 3 days, we invite you to come and advance your skills, learning from best-in-class athletes and guides. We provide a varying level of clinics, there is something for everyone no matter your skill level.

After an epic day in the mountains, the community comes together for an evening of inspiration rooted in celebration of mountain culture through speakers, music and films. The heart and soul of the Academy is providing accessible mountain education and bringing the community together through a shared love and passion of the outdoors.

How do Clinics Work?

Our clinics take place in the world's best classroom: on the mountains where we all love to play. Led by world-class mountain guides and professional athletes, Academy clinics are an opportunity to learn technical skills and put them into practice in the field.

We build our clinic lineup with an eye to help climbers and runners of all abilities level up their skills. We offer expert-led clinics and workshops for all levels, from beginner to advanced, so there is something for everyone.

We strongly recommend that all participants thoroughly review the requirements and skills needed to participate in their clinics choices before purchasing a clinic to ensure compatibility with the rest of their group.

Once registered for a clinic, you will receive an email confirming your spot. Please ensure you fill out the required waiver from our guiding partners prior to your clinic.

Further details surrounding your clinic, meeting spot, and ticket requirements will be sent to you via email 3 weeks before the Academy.

What is your clinic cancellation policy?

Ticket purchases are non-refundable and non-transferable, except as otherwise stated in the Terms & Conditions. No credit will be given for participant’s failure to attend any clinic(s) for which they are registered.

Please consider a travel insurance to cover any injuries or other reasons for cancellations. For your protection, we strongly recommend the purchase of travel insurance that combines trip cancellation and interruption coverage, baggage loss, medical coverage, and medical evacuation coverage. Travel insurance is not included in the price.

If the event is cancelled by Arc’teryx, registrants may be extended a full refund (excluding any banking or currency conversion fees).

When and Where Are The Arc'teryx Climb Academy Clinics Taking Place?

The Arc'teryx Climb Academy clinics are taking place from August 22nd - 24, 2025 in Squamish BC.

When Does Clinic Registration Open?

Clinic registration will go live on April 16, 2025 at 12:00PM PT.

What Is The Minimum Age Requirement To Take A Clinic?

We require that all clinic participants be 18 or older.

When Do I Need To Arrive?

Please make sure you arrive at least 30 min before your clinic starts so you leave enough time for parking, clinic check-in and to find your group. Ahead of your clinic day you will receive an email stating your check-in time.

Plan your journey, check the road conditions, and know where you need to be for check-in on site. For all clinics, please respect the clinic check-in time in the morning and come prepared with all your equipment (and lunch).

What Are The Start And Finish Time Of The Clinics?

Clinic check-in times are 7:30AM or 8:00AM depending on the clinic you are signed up for, but please take the time to confirm this the evening before your clinic. Your check-in time will be confirmed with you directly via email 3 weeks ahead of the event.

All clinics should be completed by 4:00 PM. *please note, this depends on your group as some may end earlier or later.

Will My Running Clinic Take The Full Day To Complete?

Some running clinics will not take the full day to complete. This depends on the objective of your clinic and the speed of your group.

What should I bring?

Each clinic has a detailed equipment list, please bring everything on the list. Depending on weather and conditions, you might not have to use everything, but it's better to come prepared!

Do I Need To Bring My Own Gear?

Yes, please bring your own basic climbing and running equipment (helmets, harness, climbing and running shoes) to clinics. All ropes and advanced climbing gear will be provided by Canada West Mountain School. Please ensure your personal gear is properly labelled so it is easily identifiable at the end of the day. We do not take responsibility for lost equipment that is left behind.

A full gear list will be sent to you in the weeks leading up to the event. If you require a gear rental, please ensure you coordinate this in advance of your clinic taking place.

Should I Have My Own Means Of Transportation?

Yes, we will not be offering rides or transportation to your trailhead so please ensure you have your own means of transportation. Clinic participants will be required to drive from the morning check-in point to the trailhead where your clinic is taking place.

Can I Park My Car Near Pavilion Park?

Parking near Pavilion Park is very limited so we would recommend walking or biking. OurSquamish will be onsite doing bike valet by donation for daytime and evening programming so you will have a secure place to store your bike onsite.

Will Food and Drinks Be Provided?

We do not organize food and drinks for the clinics, so please make sure you bring whatever you need along for the day to ensure you're properly fuelled.

Please show up to clinic check-in having had breakfast and with your lunch packed so you don't hold up your group.

Can I Bring My Pet?

Although the Arc'teryx Climb Academy team loves all animals, please leave your furry (or feathered) friends at home.

What Happens If The Weather Is Bad?

Bad weather and rain is all part of the fun, sometimes. Please come prepared for all types of weather with appropriate rain gear and layers. If the weather is very bad and clinics are unable to safely run, alternate arrangements will be made.

Is There A Cost Associated With The Pavilion Park Programming?

Most programming like daytime programming (vendor village, dyno comp, etc.) and evening programming (films, presentations and live music) taking place at Pavilion Park is free of charge and open to anyone in the community. There are limited workshops and seminars that will have a small registration fee.

Do I Need To Bring My Own Seating To Pavilion Park Evening Programming?

We will have a limited number of chairs onsite, so please feel free to bring camping chairs, blankets or whatever you need to be most comfortable for the evening programming.

Are There Additional Charges Outside of My Clinics Registration Fee I Should Be Aware Of?

There might be! If you're needing to rent any equipment for your clinic you will need to account for those costs.

If your clinic is utilizing the Sea to Sky Gondola, there may be a $65 ticket fee associated with that. This ticket can be purchased onsite at clinic check-in should the decision be made to use the gondola for your clinic.
