We will discuss the importance of risk mitigation, of coaching, of site selection, of defining roles, and of communication. Everyone will have the opportunity to practice skills, and to demonstrate their competency with both the systems as well as the approach. We hope that everyone will end the day being confident in their ability to safely support an adaptive athlete.

Home / Education / Friday
This clinic is designed to help newer climbers feel more comfortable trying climbs outside and attempting boulders of various styles.
We will cover how to warm up and try a climb effectively, as well as conserve energy for the rest of the day. We will visit different areas and attempt lots of different climbs of various styles to help develop an outdoor bouldering skill set.
Join us for a fun day of bouldering focused on building footwork and lower body climbing skills. We'll practice leg-forward techniques on a variety of boulders, from low-angle smearing to steep heel and toe hooking.
This clinic is for anyone with bouldering experience looking to improve their climbing or interested in learning about movement.
Join us on a tour of Squamish’s best boulders, not just to climb, but to learn how climbing is an art.
Climbing is often done as a “right brain” activity, but Hamish will teach you how to approach it as a creative act, and surprise you with the effects of this subtle change.
This clinic is all about building the skills and confidence to create safe, reliable top rope systems outdoors. You’ll learn the principles behind strong anchor construction and how to assess and trust the anchors you’re climbing on (even when someone else built them).
Throughout the day, each participant will build top rope systems on a variety of climbs, with plenty of time to practice, refine, and ask questions.
Effectively managing your systems during a multi-pitch climb can be harder than the climbing itself.
This clinic is focused on developing the most effective methods to safely manage your systems while climbing longer routes. Whether you are in the alpine or on a multi-pitch sport route in the desert, being able to quickly transition between leads and manage multiple people at a station will allow you to climb quicker, be safer, and spend more time enjoying the climbing.
Spend a fun day in Squamish exploring and practicing various jamming techniques. We’ll flow up classic granite splitters all day, experimenting with finger, hand, and fist jams while learning the ins and outs of each.
Perfect for those looking to refine their skills and enjoy a great day of climbing in one of the best settings around!
Squamish has some of the most beautiful 5.10 cracks that you will find in the world.
Join us on a tour through the local cliffs to sample some of the cracks that make Squamish famous. We will try to move quickly to get as many classic routes in as possible, all while learning lots of crack techniques and getting tips for moving more efficiently.
Please note: If the weather is working against us, we will switch to learning multi-pitch efficiency skills
Ever thought about the "what ifs"?
This clinic is designed to give you tools to get out of difficult situations, whether at the crag or on a long climb. You will learn how to tie off your climber, escape a belay, ascend a rope, and improvise rappel techniques. Lots of learning and lots of practice!
Knowing how to get down the mountain is just as important as knowing how to get up.
This clinic revolves around the techniques used to retreat from a climb: rappelling, lowering, and using a tag line. You'll also learn about improvising systems for when you drop your rappel device, your rope isn’t long enough, or more! We'll build anchors for descent, minimizing the use of gear.
Having the tools to escape the mountain when things go sideways can give you the confidence to take on committing routes at your limit or simply climb with a bigger margin.
Please note, this is a 2 day progressive clinic, taking place on Friday and Saturday.
Friday, August 21:
Day 1 will be a day of ground school (taking place indoors or outside in a park, but not in a mountain environment) covering the skills and strategies necessary for efficient and safe days in the mountains, and developing personal goals and objectives for the future. We will also cover what gear is needed, and more importantly what gear can be left behind; please bring your packed alpine pack to day one and we will go through everything together.
Saturday, August 22:
Day 2 will be a full day spent in the mountains aiming for an alpine objective, putting into practice the skills and knowledge gained from day one, under the guidance of a professional mountain guide and mountain athlete.
